How to Design Web 2.0 Text Edge Reflection

1. Create a new palette by clicking File > New and make it large enough to fit the text your going to type and what you want to reflect. In this example we're going to make our palette 400x200 pixels and set the background color to white.

2. We will be using the Flickr color blue "0063DC" for our text so double click on the color palette and set your color accordingly.

3. Type your text using the "Horizontal Type Tool" and type your text. We are using the (Futura Lt BT) text, a text size of "48" pixels and "Sharp" anti-aliasing.

4. After your text is typed, grab the "Move Tool" and position your text at the top half of the document.

5. Right click the "Text Layer" and select "Blending Options" or click on Layer > Layer Style > Blending Options to open and set your blending like the images below.

6. Select your text layer in the layers window and go to Layer > Duplicate Layer and name the layer "reflection".

7. Next, click on Edit > Transform > Flip Vertical and select the "Move Tool" to move the reflection layer down until the top of it is just under the original layer.

8. Click on your reflection layer and select Layer > Rasterize > Layer, then on the layer palette set the opacity to 25%.

9. Now choose the "Rectangular Marquee Tool" and select half of the reflected text then go to Select > Feather, choose 40 pixels, click "OK" and press delete. Note: Keep deleting until the bottom of the reflection has an effect you are happy with. The delete button was hit twice in this tutorial.

10. Your final image will appear like the image below.
